Missed our last discussion on the new political data rules? Here are 5 takeaways.

Thank you for joining last week's Deep Dive! 💡

Here's what stood out in our webinar on the the new political data rules:

1. Political data work has entered a new compliance era. GDPR 2024/900 expands obligations for political actors, requiring full transparency around data sources, storage, and targeting logic. “We didn’t know” will no longer be a defence — campaigns must document and justify every use of personal data. 2. Voter profiling rules have fundamentally changed. Behavioural and inferred data are now considered high-risk. Campaigns will need to show clear necessity, relevance, and proportionality before building audience segments or running tailored ads. 3. Compliance is becoming a campaign strategy. Data protection officers and legal teams are no longer side roles; they now directly shape voter outreach, message testing, and data-driven innovation. 4. Liability is now shared across the political tech ecosystem. Agencies, consultants, and platforms processing campaign data will face equal responsibility for breaches — meaning contracts, consent flows, and vendor oversight must be airtight. 5. Trust will be the new differentiator. Campaigns that adopt transparent, GDPR-aligned data practices early will build voter confidence and gain smoother approval from regulators and partners.
